From the Queen:
Hello!
My name is Alyssa Bolyard and I have been living in Pend Oreille County since I was 4 years
old. I have been involved in horses and livestock for my entire life and the passion keeps
growing stronger as time goes on. My family raises a couple different styles of AQHA quarter
horses and I have always enjoyed helping with the babies. I grew up riding in the mountains
back in the Methow Valley and enjoy fishing in the high mountain lakes. When we go riding in
the mountains, I have helped by leading pack strings on occasion, although it’s not my most
favorite part. The hard work that comes with the country way of life has enabled me to
understand that I can often do more than I think I can. You have to push forward and overcome
obstacles daily it seems like.
I am an active member and president of the Newport High School WAHSET team. Last year I
qualified for state and lettered! I rode for Deer Park for 2 years, as this is Newport’s first year
having a team. It has been exciting to be a part of starting this program at our school and to be
able to represent both my hometown high school AND my hometown Newport rodeo in the
same year. This is my senior year, I will be graduating in June and I am heading to the
University of Montana Western in Dillion, to pursue a degree in education.
Aside from WAHSET and general horse life, I like to hunt, kayak, paddle board and fish. Some
of my favorite memories are spending time outside with my family and friends. I have also been
showing a variety of animals including market goats, swine, steer and horses at the Pend Oreille
County Fair. Last year I was the princess there as well! I look forward to meeting new people
and continuing to grow who I am as a person this year.
I cannot wait to meet you at the Newport Rodeo and as I travel along the rodeo trail this
summer!
