Wyoming Rodeos

Maybe Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks draw you to Wyoming. Summer is the perfect time to plan a trip to see these natural wonders and experience Wyoming landscapes.

There’s more to the Wyoming experience than remarkable landscapes, wild animals, and hiking. Wyoming is a special place to see a rodeo. Afterall, it’s the Cowboy State. And, the state sport? Rodeo.

While you’re planning your trip, be sure to find a nearby rodeo to appreciate Wyoming culture more and get the Wyoming experience.

Cheyenne Frontier Days

Wyoming distinguishes itself from other states as home to the world’s largest outdoor rodeo Cheyenne Frontier Days. Known as the “Daddy of ‘em All”, the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo has grown since 1897. It attracts top rodeo professionals who complete for $1 million plus in cash and prizes.

Hosted annually in July, Cheyenne Frontier Days is more than just a rodeo. It’s a Western celebration. You’ll find a carnival, parades, live music, food, and family fun days. You can even learn more about Native American traditions by visiting the Indian Village.

You can enjoy professional bull riding events sanctioned by the Professional Bull Riders (PBR). And, you can see a PRCA-sanctioned ProRodeo. You can even get a tour behind the chutes to learn more about the sport and how rodeos are managed.

Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) is one of the biggest rodeo associations. It sanctions rodeos across the country and hosts finals annually in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cody Rodeos

While Cheyenne may be the state capital, Cody is the Rodeo Capital of the World. Rodeo season starts in June and ends in August. Cody hosts three rodeos in the summer: PRCA Xtreme Bulls, Cody Stampede PRCA Rodeo, and the Cody Nite Rodeo.

Located in northern Wyoming near Yellowstone, it’s easy to spend an evening watching a rodeo competition while you’re exploring Yellowstone.

Cody Nite Rodeo

The Cody Nite Rodeo runs all summer with shows every night June through August. You can see bull and bronc riding. If you have kids, they can participate in calf scrambling, meet the rodeo bull, learn roping, and get their face painted.

PRCA Xtreme Bulls

Bull riding is the most well-known rodeo event. If all you want to see is bull ride after bull ride, the PRCA Xtreme Bulls is the event for you.

Cody Stampede PRCA Rodeo

Inspired by Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, the Cody Stampede began in 1919. It attracted a lot of contestants and quickly became a source of community pride.

Even if rodeo isn’t your thing, you can’t miss the Cody Stampede Parades. The annual parades are July 3rd and 4th. There is also a Kiddies Parade on July 2nd.

Jackson Hole Rodeos

Near Grand Teton National Park, Jackson Hole Rodeos run Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day.

Jackson Hole Rodeo

Started by the Wilson family in 1890, the Jackson Hole Rodeo tradition has been maintained by subsequent generations of the Wilson family.

Every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday of the summer, you can see various rodeo competitions: bareback riding, bull riding, barrel racing, team roping, saddle bronc riding, mini bull riding, etc.

Shriners Rodeo

The Jackson Hole Rodeo partners with the Jackson Hole Shrine Club to run the Shriners Rodeo. The Shriners Rodeo runs the weekend after Labor Day and benefits the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Salt Lake City, UT.

Youth Rodeos

The state has also hosted the National High School Finals Rodeo and the College National Finals Rodeo, showcasing its dedication to preserving rodeo traditions and supporting the next generation of cowboys and cowgirls.

College National Finals Rodeo

For many years, hundreds of college students have competed in the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper. Students come from over 100 universities to compete in a variety of rodeo events.

Wyoming Rodeo Associations

Due to the work of the Wyoming Rodeo Association (WRA), you can see rodeos across the state in towns of all sizes. If you’re looking for a great rodeo with a small town experience, you can find it in Wyoming.

Wyoming also has the Wyoming High School Rodeo Association (WHSRA) dedicated to supporting and encouraging the next generation of cowboys and cowgirls.
