With years of western heritage and local history, Oregon is a great place to see Rodeos. If you’re visiting Oregon, be sure to take a look at some of the biggest annual rodeos in the northwest.
For 75 years, the Crooked River Roundup has grown into a favorite of Central Oregon rodeos. This PRCA sanctioned rodeo hosts long alley roping, ranch bronc riding, wild cow milking, and breakaway roping. There are also local events such as a wild horse race and a kids calf scramble.
What started in a pasture with a human fence has turned into 3 nights of some of the best rodeo events in the country. In 2018, the Crooked River Roundup was named “Medium Rodeo of the Year” by the Columbia River Circuit. Contestants come from across the country for the challenging stock and the long alley for roping.
The rodeo happens twice a year, so you can see it in June or July. If you’re going to be in Oregon this coming summer, be sure to get your tickets for 3 nights of fun and excitement.
The Lake County Roud-Up happens every year on Labor Day weekend. With “100 years of Buck’n, Bronc’n, and Bust’n,” this rodeo is a great way to celebrate the holiday.
At the rodeo, you’ll see professional bronc riding, bull riding, bareback riding, barrel racing, calf roping, and steer wrestling. There’s also a county fair all weekend with carnival rides, food vendors, a 4-H auction, and a country star concert. There’s even a ReRide room where you can stop for cool beverages before the show.
Joseph is a small town, but it sees thousands of visitors every year for the Chief Joseph Days rodeo. The rodeo is held annually during the last full week of July. Chief Joseph Days started in 1946, so there’s lots of western history and culture to celebrate during this unforgettable week.
There’s a PRCA rodeo that happens nightly from Wednesday to Saturday, and you won’t want to miss it. This rodeo has been called the “Best Fest of the West,” as well as being awarded “Best Medium Size Rodeo” in 2018. It’s the only small rodeo to make the Top 10 Must See Rodeos List.
Chief Joseph Days was named for the famous Nez Perce Chief, and the event celebrates all of the Nez Perce tribal members in the region. Tribal members participate in the grand parade as well as the pre-rodeo show. The Nez Perce friendship feast is open to the public to enjoy buffalo and salmon. You’ll even see native dancing.
On the 4th of July, you can see the St. Paul Rodeo. This professional rodeo has been held every year since 1944 in the historic St. Paul Rodeo Stadium. It’s ranked as one of the Top 10 regular season rodeos in the country. There’s $240,400 in added prize money, so there’s sure to be plenty of excitement.
During the third week of July, you can see the Columbia County Fair & Rodeo. This event runs Wednesday through Saturday, and has been held annually for over 100 years. With a two-day NPRA Rodeo, Jr Rodeo, Rodeo Queen Pageant, stock car races, live music, 4-H presentations, vendor booths, food, a carnival and exhibits, there’s bound to be lots of fun for the whole family.
The Pendleton Round-Up is another unforgettable rodeo with a lot of history. It’s been held annually since 1910. With native american cultural heritage and frontier authenticity, the Pendleton Round-Up is a favorite attraction for both tourists and history lovers.
With the beautiful backdrop of the Three Sisters Mountains, the Sisters rodeo is an event that you won’t be able to forget. In 2019, it was named “Large Rodeo of the Year.” Sisters Rodeo is held annually during the second weekend of June.
The rodeo isn’t the only thing you’ll be able to enjoy. The nearby town of Sisters is an old Western town with lots of fun for everyone. There’s shopping and fine restaurants, as well as special events during rodeo week. You can see a western-style parade, go to cowboy church, and enjoy good food at the Kiwanis Buckaroo Pancake Breakfast.
Named the “Biggest Little Show in the World,” and “The Friendliest Rodeo in the World,” you won’t want to miss the Sisters Rodeo this year.
Known as the “Biggest Little Show on the Coast,” the Tillamook County Rodeo has been held annually since 1987. The rodeo events include bull riding, broncs, barrel racing, steer wrestling, rope tying, and a rodeo queen competition.
There’s plenty of fun and excitement before the rodeo as well. Friday is Family Night, with stick pony races and autograph signings with the Rodeo Queens. Saturday hosts local breweries along the coast at the Hooves N’ Hops Brewfest before the rodeo. There’s also a cornhole tournament.
The NPRA is the largest regional rodeo organization in the western United States. It provides quality, competitive entertainment for the northwest, with the finest caliber of rodeo athletes. With its continued rodeo growth and membership, the NPRA sanctions more than 40 rodeos annually.
