Oklahoma Rodeos

Along with Oklahoma City and famous Route 66, Oklahoma also has lots of great rodeos. There’s an annual rodeo in almost every major city, so there’s no shortage of rodeo events to see. Plenty of the rodeos also bring festivals, fairs and carnivals to their local town, so there’s plenty of fun for everyone to enjoy.

Hilton PRCA Rodeo

There are several great rodeos that you can see over Memorial Day weekend. One of these is the Hilton PRCA Rodeo. Hosted in the Crosstie Arena near Oklahoma City, this is the oldest PRCA sanctioned rodeo in Oklahoma. It’s been held annually since 1931 and was named the Prairie Circuit Rodeo of the Year.

At this exciting rodeo event, you’ll see bareback riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, team roping, steer wrestling, and bull riding. Come see which cowboys will be awarded Best All-Around Cowboy, Best Bareback Riding, and Best Tie-Down Roping.

Will Rogers Stampede PRCA Rodeo 

Another rodeo to see over Memorial Day weekend is the Will Rogers Stampede PRCA Rodeo. This historic rodeo has been going for 70 years and is held along Route 66. 

There’s barrel racing, team roping, tie-down roping, steer roping, and mutton bustin’. There will also be nightly dances, vendor booths, and children’s activities, so it’s a great event for the whole family.

Oklahoma State Fair

Oklahoma City holds the annual state fair at State Fair Park. Even if rodeos aren’t your thing, you can enjoy a carnival, live music, magic shows, exhibits, and great food. 

The Hoofs & Horns Spectacular will be held on September 20 and 21. This exciting rodeo features bronc riding and bullfighting.

Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo

The Guymon Pioneer Days rodeo is a traditional PRCA rodeo held in the Saddle Bronc Capital of the World. This rodeo has been a city tradition since 1932, so you won’t want to miss it.

Every May, you can go see steer roping, bronc riding, and mutton bustin’. Known as Oklahoma’s Richest Rodeo, it’s the 10th largest rodeo in terms of PRCA prize money. It’s also the 5th largest outdoor rodeo.

The Guymon Pioneer Days also hosts a 5K run and walk, carnival, parade, golf tournament, and a rodeo queen pageant.

Guthrie’s 89er Days Rodeo

Guthrie’s 89er Days Rodeo is part of Oklahoma’s ‘89er Day Celebration. It’s been held annually for over 8 decades during late April. Be sure to spend some time in Guthrie’s historic district during rodeo week. There’s a parade, a carnival, Chuck Wagon Feed, an old-timer baseball game, and a royalty competition.

At the Guthrie Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena, you’ll be able to see steer wrestling, junior barrels mutton bustin’, team and calf roping, and bull and bronc riding.

Elk City Rodeo of Champions

The Elk City Rodeo of Champions is a three-day PRCA rodeo. It’s been running for over 70 years, and is the third largest rodeo in the state. Over Labor Day weekend, talented cowboys will compete for national titles in exciting rodeo events. The main events include barrel racing, bull riding, bareback riding, and team roping.

There are also plenty of other family friendly events, such as a parade of champions, a carnival, the carousel at Ackley Park, country music, a dance and royalty pageants. Bring the whole family along for three nights of fun before summer is over.

Poteau Frontier Rodeo

The Poteau Frontier Rodeo was formerly known as the Phil Gardenhire PRCA Rodeo. For 3 days each May, you can come see this exciting PRCA sanctioned event. Rodeo events include ranch broncos, open barrels, six and under pee wee barrels, and mutton bustin’. 

There’s also livestock exhibits, rodeo clowns, and great food. Every year, the Poteau Frontier Rodeo also hosts The Girl of the Frontier competition. It’s a famous royalty contest that you won’t want to miss.

Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo

Every August in Vinita, you can see the Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo. It’s a PRCA sanctioned event with barrel racing, bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, steer roping, and calf roping. World champion cowboys compete for cash and prizes in these exciting events.

The rodeo was created in 1935, and has become one of the biggest rodeos in the region. There’s plenty of fun for everyone, including a downtown parade, a street dance every night, a calf scramble, the Old Settlers reunion, and rodeo clown performances.

Lawton Rangers PRCA Rodeo

Another Oklahoma rodeo to see this year is the Lawton Rangers PRCA Rodeo. As one of the top 25 rodeos in the country, there are over 400 skilled cowboys and cowgirls competing in the main events. There’s tie-down roping, steer wrestling, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding and barrel racing. It’s a four-day PRCA competition that you won’t want to miss.
